The M10 was a Metrobus bus route that operated between Maroubra Junction and Leichhardt Town Hall.
History[]
Route 10 began operation in October 2008, being the first of many routes introduced as part of the Metrobus program. A wide variety of buses were trialled for this route, including 12m rigids, 14m rigids and 18m articulated buses. Metrobus routes included many features not seen on Sydney buses before, including automated announcements, prepay only and high-capacity turn-up-and-go service.
The route was later renumbered M10 to further emphasise that it was a Metrobus route. Free WiFi was also trialled on the route until December 2011.
Route M10 was discontinued on the 24th October 2020. This had been planned for when the new L3 Kingsford light rail opened, as it duplicates a large portion of the route, but the changes were delayed due to COVID. The Central to Leichhardt section which is not duplicated by the light rail will be replaced by additional services on route 440, which runs along an identical route west of Central.
Service[]
As with other original Metrobus routes, M10 was a frequency-based service with no public timetable. Buses generally ran every 10 minutes during the peak, every 15 minutes during the off-peak and every 20 minutes on weekends.
The route was originally run by State Transit's Port Botany (P) and Leichhardt (L) depots. Following the privatisation of SMBSC region 6, the route was transferred to Transit Systems, who ran the route from Leichhardt and Tempe (T) depots.
Route[]
The M10 operated between Maroubra Junction and Leichhardt via Norton St, Parramatta Rd, Broadway, Town Hall station, Oxford St, Flinders St and Anzac Parade.
As part of service changes for light rail construction in the City, the route was diverted away from Town Hall station to run direct from Museum to Central station, via Pitt St (westbound) or Eddy Av (eastbound).
